The AMGA committee has asked the Branches to remind their members of a few points. (These have come directly from the April 27th meeting summary)

  1. Helpers need to ensure they are wearing covered footwear for Assistant Refereeing and running Gear at all competitions. Thongs are not acceptable. Helpers are also required to stay for the whole shift, it is not fair on other helpers if you turn up but then disappear before the end.
  2. Unsportsmanlike conduct or aggressive behaviour (e.g. swearing, yelling) towards Referees (Head or Assistant) or Gear people and other officials will NOT be accepted from Riders or spectators alike. Members are reminded that decisions made by the Head Referee and/or other officials are FINAL and need to be accepted with grace.
  3. Dismounting in the arena: The race is not over until the whistle is blown by the referee and riders are to stay mounted until the whistle blows for safety reasons.
  4. Riders are to inform the Head Referee or the organising Committee of their withdrawal or the replacement of a horse before their session commences and as early as possible to allow appropriate changes to be made to the draw, if necessary.
  5. Finishing the race: Riders are encouraged to NOT throw their equipment down after they cross the finish line unless there is a serious safety issue and the rider cannot pull up their horse safely without dropping it. Equipment can be damaged and or broken when dropped which could be counted as equipment abuse. Riders should stop their horses as soon as possible and not continue racing along the safety box area unless absolutely necessary so as to prevent collisions with other riders coming through.

Lauren as our previous Branch Representative has asked me to pass on these notes. She is now one of the AMGA Vice Presidents and Phil Logue is taking over as Branch Representative on the AMGA Committee.

Hi All, just a few points from the last AMGA meeting.

AMGA will be updating and changing the Facebook page/group in the next couple of weeks so keep an eye out for that.

Uniform: If riders are wearing clothing or gear that is not appropriate they will be asked to change and not allowed to compete until they are in the correct gear.

There seems to be some confusion about what constitutes a collared shirt. Please see attached document which shows what is and isn’t allowed. Click here

Remember that only PLAIN black or beige riding pants are allowed at AMGA. Riding pants that are anything BUT PLAIN will not be allowed. E.g. coloured striping.

Shirts with pictures or slogans that AMGA or the Branch Committee consider offensive are also not allowed and riders will be asked to change.

AMGA are looking into a system where race placings and cumulative scores can be easily announced/printed out as soon as scores are confirmed in the scoring box. They will be announced during sessions when possible.

National Teams and Pairs for 2018 will be held on the consecutive weekends of Easter (31st Mar and 1st April) and April 7-8th respectively. AMGA and state branches are still looking into venue possibilities. We will notify you as soon as it is decided.

Training Day

On the 9/10 April we had a very successful training day and teams competition at the CRC grounds in the ACT. We had 31 riders attend the training day with 5 people instructing. 3 new riders and many experienced riders on new or green horses all commented that it would be great to have more training days in the schedule. We are looking at a weekend in June, we will put iy on the website when it is confirmed.

Website

As you are reading this it means that you have found the website and hopefully you are finding it easy to navigate,

the website will become the main source of communication and we would like everyone to participant in the riders forums, add photos from competitions and also to provide content for these news letters. If you have any suggestions on how the site can be improved please contact Ron Devitt.

NSW Teams

The NSW Teams competition will be held on the ANZAC weekend at the Bungendore Showground as Braidwood was not suitable and Gunning is not available entries are due to Maureen by Friday 15 April.

If you need a team or a rider let Maureen know and she will work her magic.

NSW Committee

The Annual General Meeting was held at Terry Hills at the beginning or the year and you can view who the committee members are by searching the committee section which is under the Aout Us button on this website.

The committee would like to thank Anthony Newham, who stood down as Vice president for all of his work for the NSW branch over the last 2 years. We would also like to welcome Wayne Fanning aboard as the new Vice President.

At the last committee meeting it was agreed that a new position would be created on the committee for a riders representative. This person would be responsible to ensure that any issues or suggestions that riders have are brought to the attention of the committee members so that action can be taken.

Lauren Slater is currently acting in this role.

National Individuals Wentworth

Yes it was Easter time again and that means that a number of dedicated NSW riders travel out to Wentworth for the annual competition.

Hay seemed the place to stop on the way over and to the surprise of the locals and the riders, who just slepted out in the open it rained during the night sending the riders looking for somewhere dry to sleep.

Thanks must go to Wayne Fanning who decided to check on the riders at 5am waking them up in the process.

Frank, however, made the biggest call to cross the Hay Plains after sunset, a decision he immediately regretted and so did the 5 teenagers that were travelling with him.

Wentworth again turned on the great weather for the weekend and it soon became a party atmosphere with people catching up with each other, telling stories and relaxing.

The competition was again conducted in a very professional manner our hats go off to the South Australians for their organisation skills.

Congratulations must extend to Maureen who was the official ref for the Vets and she did an exceptional job.

After the 2 days the dust had settled and the racing was over and the general feeling was that the competition is just getting better and the standard of ridng is of the highest quality.

A number of the NSW riders made the finals but a special congratulations must go to Archie McGrath who won the u15 title.
